Andrew found some cool software called Contest Domination which allows you to set up and manage online contests. So we are going to have a Bunker Contest coming soon... we talk about what kind of contest would be cool for Bunker listeners. Ian suggests the most black beer consumed would be a good contest. Or best blooper on the show. Randall said the person with the biggest Social Media fail should win. Sanj isn't a black beer guy so he thinks the game should involve tequila shots. Bonnie said the best game is Angry Birds. Bob said laughing gas should be involved. Margaret said people could bet how many F-Bombs are dropped in a show and the closest one wins. Bob said best tech tip... Bonnie said that's boring. Paul said using social media to get a celebrity to mention The Bunker Project is a good contest. Andrew said Jeff O'Neil from CFOX should come on the show. Andrew's big announcement Mateo (Andrew's son) is going to be a brother.... Andrew explains how at the ultrasound he noticed something weird and it turns out that there is two babies. OMG TWINS... It looks like they might be identical too... two boys or two girls. Andrew was thinking about getting the Ford Focus ST but it is out now... Ian recommends the Mazda 5. Ken suggests a "name the babies" contest for the Bunker Project. Andrew said Martini and Daquari works... Margaret said Belini is better. Or Baggette and Brie. Andrew said they hoping they are boys because he doesn't want to buy a shot gun... and they already have the toys for boys. Margaret said why can't girls play with those toys. A home birth is out of the question this time. Mateo was born at home. Bob tells the story about being in Thailand when his first daughter was born. He came back from an art show totally pissed and his wife's water broke. He took her to the hospital and Bob had a great time watching the C-Section. And then the second time he was even more drunk... he said hey Doc, I've done this before... give me the knife... there is still a mark from the last time!   Linked In Terms of Service  Changes: Ian talks about the new changes to the Linked In user agreement. They are trying to cut back on third party posting on Linked In. And also inappropriate use of the headline. Andrew asks if this would effect Buffer and posting to Linked In using services like that. Ian recommends smaller emails to smaller groups of people and make it personalized. It is against their terms of service and doesn't work because nobody likes being spammed. Andrew has been testing the new G+ / Blogger comment integration and it is pretty cool. You can start a free Blogger blog and write a post and share it to Google + and all the comments will appear in both G+ and Blogger. Circle Rules still apply so you can leave a comment that is only visible to circles that you share it too. The Law has to catch up with Social Media Brian Burke is trying to unmask the people who accused him of having an affair. 18 aliases were named in the case. We talk about whether people should be hiding behind user names that aren't tied to their identity on Social Media. Bonnie brings up an example about two families that were thrown in jail over false accusations of sexual abuse. It was later determined to be completely false. Maike brings up the Stanford University experiment where regular people can become abusive if put in positions of power. If you upload pictures to Social Media sites in the UK you don't own them anymore. New legislation in the UK means all your instagram pics can be used by anyone unless it is clearly marked. We talk about who owns the rights to your images. If you buy an image it is only for your use, not your clients use, etc. Sanj said if it is a personal blog it isn't as big a deal. Andrew is curating content he finds in RSS Feeds and the Zite App and uses analytics to see what types of content his followers like and he gives them more of it. He is also a doing some podcast equipment reviews and blogging more about mobile technology as well. Bob is putting out information for free. Some of the research he does for clients he puts out there for others. Geoff is working on creating comic strips for businesses to use as advertising or promotional material. He is involved with Behance which is like Linked In for artists which has worked out well for him. Randall concentrates on Facebook, Twitter and Linked in and puts out a daily tip on each site. The tips are different on each platform so he isn't blasting the same thing across platforms. He also blogs three times a week on his blog. Margaret is using social media to put out really raw and relevant content out there. She has two web shows she is co-hosting and is continually learning how to optimize her usage of Social Media. Bonnie said the numbers are important. She said they have to be real people and you have to engage with your followers. It is also all about content, content and more content. Andrew asks Bonnie if Scribe is worth the money?  Bonnie has it and she said it is totally worth it. For beginners, SEO by Yoast is a good option. For more advanced bloggers Scribe is great. Earl works at an industrial filter bag manufacturing company. He is very interested in Social Media and Podcasting because his friend got him into podcasting. His first podcast he got into was the Joe Rogan show. Earl is a big Reddit user. Earl likes to write lots of in depth posts... Andrew asks if he is a Reddit Troll?  Definitely not. We talk about podcatching software. Earl used to like Pocket Casts but after an update it had too many bugs and now uses Beyond Pod. Bob uses Dogcatcher and Andrew still loves Pocket Casts for iOS. Earl has a cool new blue camera and an adapter to send images to his phone or tablet. JJ is a political cartoonist and political columnist for The Huffington Post and political commentator for CTV.  Andrew asks JJ what he thinks about Justin Trudeau? And who is the Ron Paul of Canada? JJ had a spat on Twitter with Elizabeth May. With Social Media it is easy to engage with the politicians publicly. Geoff says in the past this kind of interaction would never happen before Social Media. Ken spends almost all of his Social Media time on Google +. What he likes about Google + is the level of engagement with high powered people. Linus Torvalds asked for advice and Ken was very happy to be able to offer advice to him. Marcel says he only has one app. Byron says hi... Twitter  is his and Marcels favourite. Ken likes power toggles and good reads. Andrew's pick is the Zite App which aggregates customized content and can be easily shared using the Buffer App. Ken asks what podcatcher apps we use. Are you driving a car witxh Blackberry in it without knowing it? Are you driving a car with Blackberry in it without knowing it? RIM acquired QNX Operating Systems Inc. a few years ago and introduced the  is operating system in the Playbook which failed miserably. QNX specializes in embedded chip technology and is in medical equipment, NASA Misision Control, the Predator Drone, anti tank missiles and 60% of cars. Why isn't Blackberry bringing up the fact that QNX is doing so well? Is it that because QNX doesn't want to be too closely associated with Blackberry? James gives us his opinion on how good the Blackberry 10 phones are after Marcel trashes Blackberry phones. Andrew lists the top 10 places you wouldn't expect to find QNX chips Blackberry will probably be around for a while because in non North American markets Blackberry is still strong and QNX is kicking butt in the automotive and other sectors. Digisocial App Andrew took a bunch of pics on his iPhone and recorded them people in the pic speaking and put them up on Facebook and Twitter. James brings up Tout... James explains how it works. Tout It Out is there slogan. Looks similar to Keek and others. WWE and the UFC really push the social media platforms. Vine and the 6 second videos aren't as cool as they though I guess. We talk about other apps like Just SayN Someone asks why not just put a short video on Youtube instead of all these video platforms. One Pass or Last Pass We ask if anyone is using One Pass or Last Pass? Burger King was hacked and they made it appear as if they were purchased by McDonalds. Bob says who cares if your Twitter account gets hacked unless your a big company like Burger King... Round Table Intro Question: Name, Klout Score (or other social measurement) and whether or not you think social scoring systems mean anything. Paul doesn't know anything about Klout so believes he must be a zero... Margaret's Klout score is around 67 but she doesn't know if it means much but she likes to get free stuff. Margaret is also a 5% er on Linked In. Ian Nethercott is a 1% er. Bonnie found a tool that measures social influence. She doesn't remember what it is called but she also uses Manage Flitter as her main Twitter Management tool. Andrew asks Bonnie why it is important to have similar ratio of followers to following. Bonnie has a Kout score of 74 or so. She thinks Klout can be gamed. Bonnie is upset that she is only 10%er on Linked In. Randall said his Klout score is up and down like a whores drawers. Randall is in the top 1% on Kred and is in the 50's on Klout. Andrew said his PlusClout sucks. Ken doesn't know what his score is... he will get more into it now that he has a podcast. Andrew looks up Ken's Klout score and it is higher than Ken thought. Ken said he isn't sure why his Klout score fluctuates. Andrew said they do it to drive traffic to their site. Bob would like Klout more if he could add his other accounts... but it might overload Klout and blow their system away. Bob mentions the importance of having a consistent image online. Bobs picture of himself with his hands on his head is on every profile and website he uses. Andrew has Klout score of 60 but thinks that focusing too much on Klout and other Social Measurement tools may divert your attention to things that increase Klout score but don't help you in reality. Andrew brings up the Podcasting Resources G+ Community and Ken says both Podcasting communities are great. Andrew has an idea to suggest to Ray Ortega for the Podcasters Roundtable - Things podcasters do that go against the grain of most podcast consultants... Apple losing trademark battles over "iPhone" Apple sued iFone, a Mexican Telecom company, despite iFone being in business long before Apple started using the trademark. Apple lost exclusive use of the trade mark "iphone" in Brazil. Another company that had the name before Apple did. Apple can still use the trademark but is no longer exclusive. This paves the way for the Android iphone models to sell in Brazil The Apple iWatch: Paul asks why is Apple bringing out a watch just after the watch dies... nobody wears a watch anymore - except high end jewelry watches. Rumor has it that the iWatch will be the primary device and everything else will be peripheral to it. Bob says Google Glass is a better idea. Will the iWatch have all the body metric and movement tools? Will it measure you blood pressure, heart rate, sweat, movements and more. Randal has never tweeted while watching a TV show... but he does have a big 50" plasma. Bonnie is one half of Women Talking Tech show... She doesn't have a TV and doesn't tweet while watching Netflix. She has mentioned what she is watching on Facebook occasionally. Margaret is one half of Women Talking Tech and also one half of To Finance and Protect which are on her Youtube Channel. She has Tweeted and used a hashtag while watching live TV. She is a triple screener. Ian has never Tweeted or checked in during a TV show. Marcel is co-host of Crazy TV Talk and  loves live tweeting during TV but doesn't get much chance because of the hours he works. If he worked better hours he would live Tweet everything. He likes Get Glue because people like to earn stickers even though it is a little dumb. Neilson will be using hashtags as a rating system now. Adam doesn't do much social media while watching TV but he likes the audience interaction they promote during The Walking Dead. AMC also did this for Breaking Bad with audience interaction and their podcast. Andrew said that if LOST was on now he would get into the second screen thing with that show. Andrew has listened to an episode of The Podcast of Interest after watching The Person of Interest and it made him go hmmmmm... interesting! Satomi comes to the Bunker Project for great tech info and has decided to go with a Windows 8 Touch Screen laptop. We talk about her options... MAC Mini vs Macbook Pro vs Windows 8, etc. Ken is trying to get his new podcast going but has been working like crazy but it is coming soon. Ken has used Get Glue but not live while watching TV. He doesn't use social media to interact with other TV watchers. One of Ken's favorite apps is power toggles. Bob has tweeted while watching shows that are a few years old. Bob is wondering what is the best hashtag strategy. Second Screen startups won't be the instagram of  TV because the incumbents will be able to offer more and shut them out. The NFL could offer additional camera angles.. behind the scenes. A TV Channel and Network could create an app that will destroy the second screen apps. Ken said viewership is dropping and people are no longer watching network TV. Marcel gets flowers... Unexpectedly. Bonnie used to use the second screen before there was a second screen. She used to call her friends and talk to them about a show during the show. Netflix and House Of Cards:  Netflix getting into original content may change the way shows are created. The advertisers are not the ones who get to decide which shows get cancelled anymore. Shows that may have been cancelled because advertisers aren't interested in the show would have a chance in the Netflix model. Netflix Chief Content Officer said that Netflix is trying to become HBO faster than HBO can become Netflix. He also said Neflix is planning to produce 5 series per year. Voicemail Feedback: Anthony from Richmond ordered the Nexus 4 but is thinking about cancelling the order and going with the Blackberry Z10, Lumia 920 or the iPhone 5. He asks Bob to spill the beans about Safeway and the girl guides... this story is a great segue into the Applebees Social Media fiasco. We also talk about Rebelmouse and do a "Gaming with James" segment... without James. We talk with Marco Pasqua about the Reality Controls - a cool new software company helping people with disabilities use gestures and movements to control games and software.   Show 125 – Applebees #FAIL, Rebelmouse and Reality Controls Norm emailed to say that the focused show is better than the Bunker free for all. He also left voicemail feedback asking Bob to reveal his Safeway and Girl Guides story. Bob explains that Safeway Canada decided to support large scale national charities only. They banned all local charities which included the Girl Guides who used to stand outside Safeway to sell their yummy cookies. Bob says the stores are supported by the local community and therefore Safeway should support the community back... great point. We play a clip from Bunker Project episode 20 where Bob tells his story about Safeway not giving good customer service and how this type of thing can end up damaging a brands reputation on social media. Which is a good segue into... Applebees Social Media #FAIL Margaret explains how a pastor didn't want to pay the automatic gratuity of 18% and wrote a note saying she only pays 10% to God so why should I pay 18% to you. The server posted a picture of the bill on Reddit and ended up getting fired for it after the post went viral. Firing the server pissed everybody off and it resulted in thousands of comments on Applebees facebook wall. Applebees cut and paste a company policy statement on the wall in response to comments. And eventually deleted negative comments... which just fueled the fire more. Sanj couldn't make the show but he is enjoying the show at home watching the live broadcast. We try and find the origin of the term SPAM - stupid pointless annoying messages. We forgot the Round Table Intros so we do it now... Adam is big time into Facebook but isn't sure if he wants to jump into Tumblr and Pinterest with the word of the day. Scott is spending too much time on Facebook and wants to learn more about Twitter and other sites. Andrew, Scott and Bob talk about the Zite app. James gives us his Arik Sternberg impression. James is experiencing social media fatigue but is open to trying out new social platforms. Margaret is happy with the big social networks she is on and doesn't want any more. Bonnie and Margaret are kicking butt on G+ hangouts with "Women Talking Tech". Bonnie has 36 separate social media accounts. She is a social media opportunist and checks out all the platforms... Randall asks if you are on every platform does that make you a social media slut? Margaret asks if she tweets and tells... Adam asks if there is a Social Network that pays you for your content and clicks on ads. Bonnie said there are three MLM social networks and she isn't on any of them. Paul isn't on many social sites. He tweets a bit and has a Wordpress site. Scott asks if Paul is on Yahoo + or uses Yahoo hangups? Ken is on tons of sites... and likes to register his user name on them all just to protect his brand. Bob is on 240 sites and uses the same image on everything. Marcel wants to know what Bob does for a living? Andrew is on a ton of sites too and likes to play with the different platforms. Bonnie asks about app.net. Andrew talks about a post where he got 2038 clicks but only has 22 followers... Glos.si Social Aggregator   Glos.si is now Pres.si and goes PREMIUM ONLY - anybody that had a free account and doesn't upgrade will be cancelled. This social homepage is cool but are they shooting themselves in the foot by alienating their customers. Ken said it is ridiculous to charge customers because they will just leave and go somewhere else. Andrew said they have gone with the freemium model and keep it free but charge for extra "power user" features. Bonnie said she would have paid for the service but not if they hold her hostage and say she has to pay. So she is going to use another site for this service. Scott says this strategy will only work if the pain of losing the service is greater than the price they charge. Adam like the targeted ads he gets from Google and social sites because they are showing him what he wants to see. Bunker Project episode #1 Andrew set up a new myspace account and created an album called Bunker Project Season 1... He listened to the Bunker episode 1 and realized we were way more professional back then. You should know blogging, Youtube, internet marketing and social media marketing. Randal is thinking about starting a podcast this year. Bonnie is the Co-Host with Margaret of Women Talking Tech Margaret has a show called To Finance and Protect and of Course Women Talking Tech Paul the Rock God thinks he should do a Karaoke podcast James doesn't have a  podcast yet but participates in The Craft Beer Network, Crazy TV Talk. James may start a standalone podcast - Gaming with James. The beer we drink at the Bunker Show is Brewmaster Black - we digress about the wonderful black beer we all love. Scott has done 30 to 40 podcasts in the past. Not all of them are currently active. His Weight Loss and The Mind show had over 300 000 subscribers. Ken has produced tons of podcasts and radio programs. He has a new show coming out very soon. Bob is willing to sell his online presence for hefty fee but Andrew says he patented Bob Garlick and is now going to sue Bob for unauthorized use of the term Bob Garlick... Podcast Patent  Volomedia was granted a patent on podcasting a couple years ago. Apple was granted a patent for podcasting.  And now Personal Audio LLC has been granted a patent on podcasting. Personal Audio LLC sued Apple over a separate hardware patent covering playlists. Apple lost the lawsuit and paid 8 Million dollars plus 4 Million dollars interest. Andrew gives us his prediction about what he thinks they will do with the patent. Free license for hobbyists and businesses pay. Bonnie said after all these years should they have a patent if they didn't enforce it? Andrew agrees but none of are lawyers. Ken asks if the technology can be reworked to get around the patent. Ken asks if there is a legal defense fund we can donate to... great segue to Leo Laporte and Adam Carolla's plan for a Kickstarter style campaign to get a legal defense fund to stop these guys. We play Leo Laporte's intitial public reaction to the lawsuit against big name podcasters. Leo went on Adam Carolla's show and Adam suggested a legal defense fund organized as a Crowd Sourced Kickstarter style legal fund. James said code can be patented or copywrited but game mechanics can not. Andrew brings up how pharmaceuticals get around not being able to patent natural molecules by modifying the molecule and patenting that... then petition the regulators to ban the natural product because it now contains a drug... insanity! Bonnie disagrees. She said you have to have a plan and analytics. Traditional campaigns are too rigid and short term. Not too personal. Inbound Marketing goes enterprise wide.  Bob and Bonnie said that was so last year. Margaret said nobody wants to hear accountants Tweeting. Know Thy Customer. If your customer is on social media, you should be there too. And learn about your customers and what they want. Marketing Becomes More Accountable For Revenue Generation. We have a lively conversation on whether marketing has always been accountable for revenue. With digital marketing you can track everything. Should we trust shortened urls? Social Media Gets Integrated. Social data gets integrated with traditional marketing and the sales funnel. Go Mobile or Fall Behind. Someones smart phone is their most important computer. May be faster than their home computer, is always with them and they are totally engaged with content on their phone. Scott Paton was coming to the show tonight but unfortunately was in a car accident on the way to the show. Should he be more active on Facebook and his second question MAC or PC? In the Round Table Intros everyone introduces themselves and answers Norms two questions... Paul isn't on facebook and is very cautious... PC or MAC? Doesn't think that there is much difference anymore between the two. Satomi doesn't use facebook much. She likes MAC better but she prefers PC for business. Ian prefers Linked In to Facebook. He has used both PC and MAC. Both have pros and cons and believes Apple has an advantage controlling both hardware and software. But it isn't for everyone and depends on what you like. Arik says Facebook, PC's and MACs are just tools and everything is in the cloud baby! Bonnie said for her Facebook is not your property... you need your own home on the web. Should Norm be on Facebook... yes. But don't count on it. Paul asks Bonnie how she can manage to follow 100 000 people when his 4 kids are hard enough to follow. Bonnie said lists make it easy. Randal recommends Scott Straten's book "Unmarketing". He says pick one social network and dominate it. Paul the Rock God just joined facebook THIS WEEK... and has no friends there yet. He likes PC better than MAC because on a PC he can type 70 wpm! Adam Stanger has changed careers from landscaping to internet marketing. Adam says Facebook is a tool and that is it. Don't use it for anything else. Adam says definitely PC... People who buy MACs feel they have to say they are better because they spend three times as much. James says Facebook is for fun just as much as it is for business. MAC or PC... depends on what your doing? If you developing iOS apps you must have a MAC. Ken started out on a Comodor 64 (Andrew too)... for Social Networks he says go for Google + all the way. Good conversation on Google + vs Facebook Craig says that his house is almost completely MAC because they have AirPort and Apple TV's. You can make your own mobile website for free OR a mobile app. And they will help you get it into the various App Stores. Bonnie says that the content in an App is not searchable by search engines and the market is too crowded. Too much competition in app marketplaces. There are different types of Apps and different reasons for having an App. Kurt says might as well make a good mobile site and forget about an App that only displays content that would be on your website anyway. Bonnie says whether the App is awesome or not... people won't find your app. Washington State legalized pot before BC because everyone in BC was too stoned to get the act together. Andrew suggests Michel Thomas for learning languages Al's app is a power management tool (Data Enabler) which allows a one touch data on off switch and he also loves Swype. The Guinness record for text speed was broken with Swype. Craigs daughter comes on the show for a couple minutes. Craig loves the Evernote app and PocketCasts. Bob started using Zite on Andrews recommendation. Just feed in your RSS reader and Twitter feed and as you get content you give it a thumb up or thumb down and it gives you more relevant content over time.
